8 reasons why you should drink more water

Water is the most easily accessible and by far the most healthy drink there is. So why do so many of us choose not to use it quench our thirst? For many years I was no exception to this. If I had the choice out of a fizzy drink, summer fruits squash or water, our friend H2o ALWAYS came out last. However, since then I have changed my ways and I can honestly say, water should always be top of the drinks leaderboard. Not only is it so easy to get hold of, it also has loads of health benefits; 8 of which I have chosen to highlight in this post.

1. CONTROL THOSE KIDNEYS!
You may not think it’s possible but water helps control and maintain your vital organ functions such as your kidneys! Kidneys are one of those organs that gets forgotten about. They’re like the sticker on the bottom of your brand new shoes that you find weeks later and think “Sh*t, why didn’t I notice that!?”. Kidneys are responsible for filtering the nutrients and the goodness from everything we eat and drink. Everything else is removed for waste and sent to the bladder for expulsion. So treat those kidneys to lots of water to ensure they are functioning properly!

2. HUNGRY? WATER CAN HELP
Water can also be used to quench hunger and substitute a snack from the fridge. One thing a lot of us are guilty of is mistaking thirst for hunger, so a regular intake of water can help to control your diet.

3. SAY GOODBYE TO BAD SKIN
No, I’m not plugging a new beauty range. Water is proven to maintain a healthier looking skin and appearance. Carbonated drinks can leave you bloated and uncomfortable, so a glass of the good stuff is vital if you’re one who cares about how they look, or who gets the odd spot now and again!

4. ENERGY AND FUEL
I know I bang on about it but it is SO important you keep your body fuelled and topped up with energy. Water is your main power supply and the more you exercise, the more you need to drink!

5. NO POO MEANS NO WATER? NO SH*T!
Perhaps this should have been number 2 but yes, poo-ing is something we don’t often talk about but is something that we all do, and something we need to do! Have you ever gone a few days without doing the crime? Lack of water may be the main suspect for this, and is something you need to get locked up. Drink more and you’ll be having regular dates with the toilet again.

6. THE BRAIN DRINK
How often at school were you encouraged to drink lots of water or perhaps even bring a bottle in yourself? Well, the teachers were always right! Water gives you productivity boots and keep you at your most alert. Particularly those in jobs that require your A-game all day, you may want to take on a few more pints of water. Think of yourself as Popeye and spinach as water. Your brain needs to stay hydrated otherwise it will fall asleep!

7. YOU’LL GET TIRED OF NO WATER
This leads nicely onto this point. Another sign of a low water intake is fatigue and a general bad mood! The more you drink, the more hydrated you’ll be, hence the more comfortable and happy you’ll find yourself. If you ever catch me in a bad mood, it may be because I’ve forgotten my water bottle!

8. HANGOVER CURE!
Perhaps the most important and most relatable point of all; water can help towards curing that awful hangover! Yes, you know the ones. Where you wake up feeling like you’ve gone 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua, with your mouth drier than a bowl of stale shredded wheat. Water can be used as a remedy to get you on your feet again so you can start remembering what happened the night before!

There are countless reasons why water should be the number one thirst quencher for us all, but I believe these are the main ones. Perhaps the fact it takes up 71% of the world and 70% of our bodies is the reason we have grown complacent and don’t see it as a necessity? You want to feel better, look better, crap better and stay awake better? Start with drinking more water!
